Discussed article on auteurism and genre theory. This is both a very useful summary and an interesting suggestion of ways in which the two can be fruitfully combined: a key text for the exam.

Brief discussion on structural auteurism.

Watched extracts from Fahrenheit 911 and DC/911 and compared the representations of Bush.

Watched first 25 mins of Sunrise and discussed it as a melodrama. Emphasised how our main case studies are all examples of arthouse melodrama.

In groups 25 mins to present the messages & values of Love + Hate. Then presented these to class. They demonstrated a good knowledge of the film unlike the essays which were terrible.

Red Dwarf. Some parody (the ship's computer); pastiche of SF in the sense of using very recognisable iconography, settings and characters. Mostly sitcom. References to prison and war movies.

Is also hard SF as does consider what it means to be human.
